Before your scarless breast reduction, you will undergo a consultation with Dr. Parakh at her Englewood, NJ office. During this first meeting, Dr. Parakh will go over your medical history and discuss your goals for the procedure. You may need to undergo lab work and a physical exam to ensure you are healthy enough for a liposuction breast reduction. Women over 40 or younger women with a family history of breast cancer will need to have a mammogram.

Dr. Parakh will show you before and after pictures of former patients. If you decide to proceed with the procedure, Dr. Parakh will ask you to stop smoking and stop taking certain anticoagulant drugs or supplements at least two weeks before your treatment, as these medications can make it hard for the blood to clot, interfering with healing.

What To Expect During The Procedure

Before the procedure begins, you will receive either general anesthesia or intravenous sedation to keep you comfortable. Dr. Parakh will inject a saline solution, a vasoconstrictor, and a painkiller into the breasts. This solution, called “tumescent”, causes the breasts to swell and grow rigid, rendering them easier to treat.

The vasoconstrictor reduces blood loss by narrowing the blood vessels, and the painkiller enhances comfort. Dr. Parakh will make two tiny incisions in each of the breasts. She will use a 4- or 6-millimeter vacuum cannula to remove the excess fat. After this, she will dress the incisions and fit you with a special bra, which is then covered with a compression garment.

Recovery

Liposuction breast reduction is performed on an outpatient basis, which means you can return home following the procedure. While at home, you will need to change your surgical dressings as necessary. Dr. Parakh will see you after 5 days to make sure all is well. You may experience something called ecchymosis (bruising beneath the skin), but this is normal and fades after about three weeks. The breasts may also be lumpy for a period, but this, too, is normal and will improve in 2-3 weeks

You should be able to go back to work 3-5 days after surgery and return to the gym after about two weeks.
