The Incredible Technology of CoolSculpting

The CoolSculpting technology is designed to safely deliver controlled cooling that targets the fat cells below the skin, while leaving the skin itself unaffected. This non-invasive treatment has zero downtime and you can return to work and regular activities right away. The CoolSculpting system is designed to protect your skin from getting too cold while it freezes stubborn, unwanted fat away.

Does CoolSculpting Help Patients Lose Weight?

It’s important to understand that CoolSculpting isn’t a weight loss procedure. Rather, it’s a fat elimination procedure by way of extreme cold. By freezing fat away, CoolSculpting eliminates unwanted fat bulges.

It’s not a weight loss solution for obesity, but it can be an excellent, non-surgical option for those who want to change the appearance of their body and feel more confident and comfortable in their clothes or while naked.

CoolSculpting can help you eliminate troublesome areas of stubborn fat that remain even after you’ve completed a weight loss program and achieved dieting goals.

How Does CoolSculpting Work?

The science behind CoolSculpting is called cryolipolysis, and it’s based on research that dates back decades by scientists at Harvard University. These scientists determined that cold can target fat cells specifically without damaging the skin or surrounding tissue.

Fat cells are highly sensitive to cold temperatures. CoolSculpting works by delivering controlled cooling that targets fat cells gently, yet effectively.

The treated fat cells are crystallized or frozen, and then they die. Your own body will process the fat in the weeks following the procedure and eliminate the dead cells, leaving behind a more sculpted figure.

Because the treated fat cells are eliminated and not just reduced in size or appearance, you can expect long-term, lasting results from your CoolSculpting procedure. While one session can provide significant results, some areas may require additional sessions to further enhance the results.

How CoolSculpting Reduces Fat

Reducing fat specifically is different than overall weight loss. CoolSculpting is a procedure that targets specific fat cells. The number of fat cells in our body is fixed — usually in the teenage years. When you lose weight, you generally do not decrease the number of fat cells you have. Instead, you decrease their size. After dieting and weight loss, each fat cell is smaller, but the number of cells remains the same. CoolSculpting introduces a new element into your mission for a sculpted body by reducing the number of fat cells in a treated area by 20% to 25%. It doesn’t change the number of fat cells in untreated areas, and cells are eliminated so they do not migrate elsewhere in the body.

What to Expect During Your CoolSculpting Consultation

Before your CoolSculpting procedure, you’ll have a consultation with Dr. Parakh at her Englewood, NJ office. When you meet with Dr. Parakh to talk about CoolSculpting, you’ll be taking your first step on a journey to a slimmer, more confident you. Dr. Parakh will discuss your overall goals for your body and appearance with you and present realistic outcomes for your procedure. She will work with you to determine the areas of your body that you would like to target for CoolSculpting fat freezing and develop a customized treatment plan individually tailored for your body. Because everybody is different, Dr. Parakh can work to develop an individual plan that will lead to your desired results. For some people, this can include one CoolSculpting treatment, while for others you may wish to pursue multiple CoolSculpting treatments for different areas of your body in order to achieve your desired, sculpted appearance.

CoolSculpting Procedure Details

CoolSculpting is a non-invasive treatment. Before your CoolSculpting procedure begins, your skin will be marked to help guide Dr. Parakh or a member of her team. A gel pad will be placed directly onto your skin, and then the panel applicator will be placed on top of the gel pad. The panel applicator emits strong vacuum pressure and cold temperatures to the treatment area. It’s normal to feel mild discomfort with CoolSculpting, but no pain. During the first few minutes, patients can usually feel intense cold that dissipates shortly thereafter. In some cases, you may feel a pulling sensation as suction is applied. Within 5-10 minutes, the area being treated will go numb, and during this time many people can enjoy reading, working on their laptop, watching shows, or browsing their phone.

Downtime and Results

Following the CoolSculpting procedure, we will massage the treatment area for 2-3 minutes. You can generally expect to return immediately to normal activities, as the non-invasive and nearly painless nature of the process allows you to return to normal activities right after a session.

CoolSculpting eliminates fat cells as your body processes the frozen, dead cells away. In as soon as four weeks after the treatment, you will see results. After two months, the results will be most dramatic. Changes will continue to happen for 4-6 months after treatment. You can expect your CoolSculpting results to be long-lasting.
