Restore Youth and Brightness to Your Eyes

According to countless surveys over the decades, the eyes are the first feature that others notice in men. Unfortunately, with age, it can appear that the light has been turned out of the eyes. This is where a simple procedure known as blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) can make a significant improvement. Eyelid surgery can be performed on the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both at the same time.

  • Corrects a permanent expression that looks angry, tired, or sad
  • Removes excess skin that is impacting vision
  • Corrects lower eyelids that are being “pulled down”
  • Delivers a more alert, bright, youthful appearance

Eyelid Surgery Procedure Details

Dr. Parakh performs eyelid surgery for men in New Jersey with the patient under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with mild sedation. The surgery typically takes 1-2 hours and is an outpatient procedure.

As mentioned above, upper eyelid surgery and lower eyelid surgery can be performed by themselves or combined, depending on what your specific aesthetic goals are. This will be discussed during your consultation with Dr. Parakh. The goal of the procedure is to remove or reposition excess tissue and to reinforce the surrounding muscles and tendons.

Upper eyelid surgery is designed to correct sagging or puffy skin. Dr. Parakh will make an incision in the natural crease of the eyelid so she can remove fat and excess skin, as well as tighten the muscles. Upper eyelid drooping can interfere with vision, and many patients find that they can see much better after this procedure. Lower eyelid surgery is designed to improve bags and bulges beneath the eyes, as well as lower eyelids that are being “pulled down” and showing the whites under the iris. Dr. Parakh will make an incision either underneath the eyelash line or inside the lower eyelids. Fat will then be removed.

Recovery and Results: What to Expect

Most eyelid surgery patients are able to return to work and regular activities about one week following the procedure. Exercise can be continued in two weeks.

Common side effects that you may experience include bruising, swelling, minimal discomfort, blurred vision, redness, and “tired” or dry eyes. It’s also important to note that if you normally wear contact lenses, you cannot wear them for two weeks after eyelid surgery. The majority of eyelid surgery patients are very satisfied with the results, which may last a lifetime.
